It’s hard not to fall in love with a little gem of a quote like this, which I recently stumbled upon over at My Little Book Blog. I am a notorious book re-reader. I can never borrow books because I want to keep them, even if I didn’t like them, because I know I’ll want to revisit them some day. And if I want to reread books I wasn’t too fond of sometimes, imagine how I am with books that I love. It got me curious about how other people felt and I figured it would make a great topic for discussion here.
Do you reread books often? Do you have your favorites that you reread the most? What are they, and, even more interesting, why? Of the books I’ve read multiple times and keep coming back for more, The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin is easily the most revisited. I’ve been reading this book practically every year since the year I first read it, back in fourth grade for class. I immediately latched on to Turtle Wexler, sometimes braiding my hair and riding my bike around the farm pretending to be her (and then taking that pretending even further and playing her over at Fandom High for yeeeeaaaars). What’s amazing about this book is that it’s so well-composed that, with the countless times I read it, I always find something new I didn’t really pick up on before. And the ending still makes me tear up and get all sniffly. That’s an incredibly powerful book right there. It has such an incredible power over me that it easily tops my list of favorites.

My mom could never understand why I’d rather buy books then just borrow from the library. Of course, it didn’t take long before I’d read all the Louis L’Amour books our small town’s library had. So, why wouldn’t I want to buy them so I could read more and reread whenever I wanted? I used to reread books all the time. Now with my kindle and having so many choices right at my fingertips(not always a good thing to have that one-click option), I don’t as much.
