RoW80 Check-in: February 26th!

By Zachary Quinto’s Eyebrows, it’s time for another RoW80 check-in, which I’m trying to do with a very affectionate cat on my shoulder. Baldur has an amazing talent to find the most inconvenient times to want to cuddle, which only proves that, yes, he is a cat. Still, I’ve had a productive week. Not perfect by any means, but what is? I’ve had a new project to put some oomph to my step and, though there has been some drama at work and I’m pretty sure I need to start looking for a new job, my writing has only suffered…minutely. I’m excited about tomorrow, of course (day off!), and for this evening where hopefully I’ll be able to fend off the urge to just veg on the couch. Let’s have a look at some goals now:

Serpent in a Cage: SiaC is coming along steadily. I haven’t made any great catch-up strides but I’ve been consistent with getting some pages done and I’ve picked up on another swell of excitement that keeps the words flowing easily. One thing I’m absolutely loving about the re-write is simply how richer everything is. The connections are stronger, there are new things happening that highlight certain aspects of the characters better than I could have imagined, and I just am really loving the new take on the story. Good stuff is happening. Really good stuff. Page count: 26/54.

Teen Fantasy Anthology: I’ve only missed one day so far for Morgan Dragonwillow’s Teen Fantasy Anthology Contest, not for want of trying, but for miscommunication at work that lead to a fun little ten hour day. Which was a shame because the story I had started was a good one, but I can see it developing into a really cool new series, so all is not lost. In fact, I’ve been really enjoying every story I’ve been putting out for this contest so far, so I’ve got a great treasure trove of new short stories, potential books, and potential series popping up everywhere. Very, very pleased, and I owe Morgan a great big debt of gratitude for putting this together and inspiring me so much! If you haven’t been following the contest, check it out and see what you can come up with! I’ve been having so much fun with it.

Bowlful of Bunnies: Alas, since the Teen Fantasy Anthology is my main writing priority right now, BoB has been mostly neglected. That’s okay, though, since I suspect quite a few of the stories I’ve been working on for the Anthology have a good chance of filling the pages of my own personal anthology. I’m also slowly picking at a few other new stories here and there, though I haven’t done much typing on the zombie story that’s already written.

100 Books Project: Still a little slow on this; I’ve got about three days to finish my big 700+ book for February, so that’s where my attention will go in my reading for these next few days. I have to remember to pick up a few filler books here soon, although one of the books I’ve picked up is so engaging that I’m flying right through it and that one’s probably going to be finished in no time.

Featured Story: Last but not least, it’s Sunday, which means there’s a new Featured Story up! Many thanks to Lauralynn and Catatonic Musicman for their kind words on the last one; it’s always been one of my favorites, too, and it’s been on such a rough journey that it was very encouraging! This next one is an interesting bit of speculative fiction about Martin Luther and the devil. Check it out, offer some constructive help, or just enjoy!
