Advertisements? In my writing blog?

It’s more common than you think.

Now, this isn’t a post about me getting advertisers or sponsors for my blog, because I’m not entirely sure how that really works, despite that I’d love to do something like that so I could drop one of my crappy jobs. No, it’s me doing the advertising myself, and that advertisement would be for an addiction I’ve had for five years now: Fandom High.

Now, I’ve mentioned Fandom High briefly before, but I didn’t say too much about it. Essentially, it’s a character-based role-playing game on LiveJournal. It works through a network of communities and personal journals, written in third person, so it’s like a great interactive story with several perspectives. The concept of the game is simple: somewhere in the multitude of multi-verses, there’s an island off the coast of Maryland, USA, that looks an awful lot like a larger Mont St. Michel. That castle there? That’s a boarding school, where people from all different “fandoms” come to learn or teach, and there’s a small little town for people to go about a quiet and peaceful life.

Quiet and peaceful if you ignore the constant invasions, wacky weekend when you turn five years old or have random kids of your own, or the gremlins that bite you and think you’re someone else, or, like this weekend, thematic happenstance such as jelly beans coming out of the faucets instead of water, and actual grass turning into plastic grass, and Cadbury eggs sitting where you’ve just gotten up.

Basically, it’s a lot of fun. I wouldn’t have been doing it for almost five years if it wasn’t fun (I did take a hiatus for a while, too, but I returned after my fiance’s death; the players are all wonderful people and they made for a great support network. One of them is even my roommate now!). I’ve played many, many characters in all those years, too, and, since I love talking about them and it gives you an idea of what we do, here’s who I’ve played, and what fandom they’re from.
